What is solid perfume?

Although this might be a new concept to many, solid fragrances have actually been around for a very long time. In Ancient Egypt, solid perfumes were believed to have healing properties and Europeans found solid scents quite chic, carrying them around in lockets. So what are they and what are they made of?

Solid perfumes, as the name implies, are a clever way of delivering your favourite scent in a solid state rather than the usual liquid mix of ethanol (alcohol) and water. Normally the substance that forms the base comes from a type of wax that is initially melted and a scent or several scents then added.
